Burglars target temples at Tivim, Camurlim

MAPUSA: Burglars targeted two temples at Tivim and Camurlim in Bardez and decamped with a fund box, CD player and silver items, worth about Rs 1 lakh.

According to Mapusa police, the pujari of Mahaganapati Bhavanishankher Devasthan had closed the temple at about 12 midnight on Thursday. However, when he opened the temple at 5.45 am on Friday, he found the CD player, the fund box and silver snake stolen from the Bhavanishanker temple.
Police further informed that the burglars first entered the Mahaganapati temple by breaking the lock of the main door. Since the fund box was heavy, they could not take it. They took away the CD player. Thereafter, they entered the Bhavanishanker temple by the side of the temple and decamped with the fund box and silver snake, all worth Rs 1 lakh.
In another burglary case, burglars entered the Vans Devi temple at Camurlim by breaking the lock of the front door and decamped with the fund box.
According to information given to the police by the temple Poojari, the fund box may have had Rs 1,200. Police is investigating both the cases.
