Bus carrying distillery firm workers falls into ditch in Durg, Chhattisgarh; 12 dead and 14 injured

A bus carrying the employees of a distillery plunged into ‘murum’ soil mine
pit in Chhattisgarh’s Durg district. The incident occurred at late
night on April 9th that claimed life of 12 people and left 14
injured.

On Tuesday
late evening, at around 8:30
p.m. near Khapri village, the bus carrying the workers was returning home from distillery work. As per sources the bus was carrying around 40 workers that
overturned and fell 50 feet down into the soil mine pit.

As per the information given by SP of the Durg District,
Jitendra Shukla the bus was carrying the workers home after their shift when
the accident happened. As per the preliminary probe, it appears that the bus
went out of control and fell into a ditch on the side of the road, he added.

Police and locals on the crime scene were seen helping the
trapped workers in getting out of the bus. According to the District Magistrate Richa Prakash Chaudhary, the 14
people who were severely injured were taken to hospital for medical
treatment. The 14 injured are in a stable condition now. She further added that
an investigation will be conducted to find out the exact cause of this gruesome
incident and accordingly necessary action will be taken.
