The private transport operators today withdrew their hunger strike after State government assured them to hike the ticket fares for the first nine kilometers.
The strike was called off within one hour this morning.
All Goa Private Bus Owners Association General Secretary Sudip Tamankar said that Chief Minister Digamber Kamat intervened in the matter.
“Just as when we started the strike, the chief minister telephoned me asking to meet Transport Director Arun Desai,” Tamankar said.
“Desai assured to hike the ticket fares to 15 paisa for the first nine kilometers in addition to Rs 5 for the first three kilometers,” he added.
Tamankar said that the notification in this regard will be issued within a week. “We are thankful to CM for redressing our grievances,” he said.
The operators were unhappy with ten paisa hike offered by state government and instead had demanded the hike of 20 paisa. Failing to impress government over their demand, the transporters then insisted for 15 paisa hike.
