Association General Secretary Sudip Tamankar said that the order was passed without taking the present scenario into consideration. “We will put our grievance before the court and let it decide (whether to permit multi-toned air horns or not),” he said.
Justifying his preference for multi-toned air horns, Tamakar said that compulsory use of helmets, cars with air conditioners and music systems and use of mobile phones while driving, call for use of multi-toned air horns in buses.
Stating that irresponsible attitude of people is the major cause of road accidents, Tamakar asserted that multi-toned air horns are necessary to alert those who “live in their own world.”
On handing over the responsibility of enforcing the ban to the transport and police departments, he said that it would lead to the massive corruption, even as he urged the GSPCB to go slow till the MoEF and courts decide the issue.
“I will also make a representation to the MoEF soon,” he said.
There are many serious complaints pending before the GSPCB including the pollution in Mandovi River caused by casinos, however the pollution board has miserably failed to act on it, till date, he said.
Tamankar said that he is in possession of a GSPCB report which, inter alia, holds casinos responsible for polluting River Mandovi.
Tamankar opined that the GSPC should focus its time and energy in solving more importance issues.
