MARGAO: The entire stretch of footpath from Rawanfond to ESI Hospital, a way towards the Konkan Railway Station, is filled with overgrown bushes, mud, garbage and debris, obstructing people’s pathway, resulting in major inconvenience to the public in general.
Pedestrians are compelled to walk on the road, making them vulnerable to accidents.
Locals say the authorities haven’t paid attention to the neglected footpath. They have requested the concerned authorities and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat to clear the footpath.
Speaking to Herald Dr Sanjay Desai said this mess is a result of inefficiency from the part of local authorities.
“One must keep in mind that this is a commercial town of Goa. Thousands of passengers and tourists are noticed over here. However, it is sad to say that there is no way to walk outside the railway station,” said Desai.
He further said that the overgrown bushes, debris, garbage, mud etc is seen unattended by the concerned authorities for the last several years. With no option left pedestrians are seen walking on the roads, despite the existence of the footpath.
Desai also charged the local authorities such as the Margao Municipality, Public Works Department, and the Electricity Department for showing total negligence towards the issue.
“The concerned authorities should have taken this issue seriously, as the matter is of concern to the public. It will take hardly two days to trim or cut the overgrown bushes, but there is no will from the part of authorities,” he stated.
He also urged the local MLA Digambar Kamat to look into the matter.
