Businessman abducted, five robbed in Margao

MARGAO: A Margao businessman was abducted, while five others were robbed by gangs in two incidents on Saturday.

In the first incident, Khalil Abubhakar Nayate (52) was abducted near Apollo Victor Hospital, Margao by four men at 9.10 pm. The men forced him into a grey car, assaulted him, and stole his cash (Rs 2.40 lakh) and mobile phone (Rs 1,000). They also threatened him with dire consequences.
The victim described his abductors as thin, 5’5” tall, aged between 18-20 years, and wheatish in complexion. Police registered a case under Sections 365, 394, 323, 506 (ii) r/w 34 of IPC.
In the second incident, a four-member gang restrained five men – Mahantesh Lamani, Lokesh Lamani, Mallesh Lamani, Kumar Lamani and Akshay Kurle – while proceeding to the Margao Railway Station. The gang members assaulted them and stole their belongings, including a gold chain worth Rs 10,000 and cash of Rs 50,000.
Mahantesh later lodged a complaint with Margao police, who arrested the gang. 
The four accused are: Kumar Manjunath Bijapur (20) Mohammad Bepari (22), Basuraj Sidappa Jamuni (24) and Babu Shankar Marathe (24) – all residents of Margao. They have been remanded to police custody for four days.
