PANJIM: Well-known singer and composer Siddhanath Buyao has sought permission from Airport Authority of India (AAI) for using the airport premise to celebrate the golden jubilee of the historic Opinion Poll on January 16, 2018.
This is the second application following AAI allowing BJP National President Amit Shah’s public meeting at the Dabolim airport premise on July 1. Earlier this week, Congress leader Janardan Bhandari had requested that the airport be allowed to be used to host his wedding reception in September.
The two applications are part of the protest against AAI’s failure to initiate action against Shah’s alleged illegal meeting at the airport, which was attended by over 2000 people.
Siddhanath, the son of a prominent singer Ulhas Buyao, who was at the forefront to keep Goa from being merged into Maharashtra during the historic Opinion Poll has asked permission to celebrate 50 years of Opinion Poll on January 16, 2018.
“Goa is celebrating 50 years of Opinion Poll on 16th January 2018. This is a historic moment for every Goan to celebrate. On this occasion we Buyao Theatres Goem, a prominent cultural organization since 1967 wish to hold Golden jubilee of Opinion Poll Celebration meeting at Dabolim airport with musical performances and launch of music album songs of Opinion Poll which was used to canvass against the merger,” he said in his letter addressed to Airport Director B C H Negi.
“Since Dabolim Airport has historic importance to the Goa’s Liberation, it would be a befitting venue for this occasion. So we are approaching you to grant us permission for setting up stage, pandal, sound system and 1,000 chairs for our guest,” he has said.
The letter has also requested the airport authority to “make available parking space for cars and scooters.”
“Spontaneously there may be more crowds attending for which we have to prepare for. Kindly allot us same place where the BJP National President Amit Shah’s meeting was held on 1st July 2017,” the letter reads as.
He has said, “on this occasion we would also invite high profile guests. We are also open if AAI would like to join as co-host. Awaiting your prompt reply and confirmation.”
