PANJIM: Transport Department will go fully online providing citizens stress-free services in a month’s time.
Transport Director Nikhil Desai told Herald that he has held a meeting with all Deputy and Assistant Directors of the department, and officials of NIC and GEL (Goa Electronic Limited) with a view to provide online services. Desai said that by mid-June the department would go completely online and that the first target is to revamp the department’s website.
“There is software which is ready and currently in the testing stage. Once it is ready the people will not have to come to the offices for various services of the Transport Department,” Desai said.
Services in the department including fees payable, taxes, renewals, permits and other payments would be available for the people to make payments online in easy steps. “This will clamp down on all illegalities and revenue leakages. It will also be easy for the department to retrieve the data once all the services go online,” he said.
Desai said that with this the department will get more time to concentrate on revenue collection and enforcement. “I am pushing this service not only to generate revenue but to make citizens’ life friendly with the department,” he added.
Desai said that streamlining the issue of taxis and other commercial vehicles is in the process and will be resolved in a few days.
