PANJIM: The Goa State Election Commission (GESC) has announced the by-elections for three wards of different village panchayats on July 2.
The by-poll will be held for ward V of Sant Estevam Village Panchayat in Tiswadi taluka, ward VII of Parcem Village Panchayat in Pernem taluka, and ward II of Dramapur-Sirlim Village Panchayat in Salcete taluka.
The ward VII of Parsem and ward II of Dramapur-Siflim panchayats fell vacant following resignations of Rohan Polji and Roque Santana Madcarenhas respectively while, ward V of Sant Estevam fell vacant due to death of Ajay Tari.
Meanwhile, the process of filing nomination papers will start from Wednesday, June 14 from 10 am to 1 pm and the last date to file nominations is June 21.
Both the District Magistrates have been appointed as the District Election Officers, while the respective Taluka Mamlatdars will be the returning officers. Additionally, the Awal Karkuns in respective Mamlatdar offices will act as assistant returning officers.
The maximum expenditure limit for candidates per ward is fixed at Rs 40,000.
To ensure the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct, General Observers and Expenditure Observer have been appointed by the State Election Commission. Flying squads will also be deployed by the District Collectors of North Goa and South Goa, the SEC said.
