VASCO: Local MLA Carlos Almeida on Sunday informed that the South Goa Collector has conveyed to him that from Monday (August 10) the residents from the Mangor containment zone will be permitted to enter and exit the zone for work purposes by signing the register.
The MLA said this message was conveyed to him at meeting held in the Office of the Deputy Collector, Mormugao on Sunday.
He mentioned that it was also discussed that if there were no further cases, then as per the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) guidelines, on August 20, all the containment /buffer barricades at Mangor Hill will be cleared.
He said it was also decided to have 3 small micro containment zones in the said area comprising of 17 houses in the next 10 days. The last COVID positive case in the Mangor containment zone was detected on July 27. At present there are no positive cases
Almeida mentioned that in the past he had a meeting with the Chief Minister wherein he had requested him to sort out the Mangor Hill and Khariwado containment zone issues as the locals demanded freedom from the containment zones.
He said there was a meeting with the South Goa Collector and the Deputy Collector of Mormugao taluka wherein issues pertaining to the containment zones were discussed and being the head of the disaster management the Deputy Collector will take a call in this matter.
Providing details of the meeting with the MLA, South Collector and police, Mormugao Deputy Collector Sachin Desai said the Vasco MLA was satisfied with the discussion.
He said, “As per the guidelines of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare after 14 days of the recovery of the last detected COVID positive case, the denotification of the containment zone is possible. Normally, it takes on an average 10 days for a person to recover from the infection and after recovery, another 14 days which totals up to 24 days. Therefore, considering MHA’s guidelines the discussion and suggestions were put up”.
The Deputy Collector mentioned that the bigger containment zone of the Mangor area will be split into micro containment zones. All suggestions given during this meeting will be assessed by the South Goa Collector and then he will issue the necessary orders.
