PONDA: The Registrar of Cooperative Societies, it is learnt, has appointed Chartered Accountant Yatish Vernekar to conduct an inquiry into various affairs of Goa Dairy and submit his report to the government in three weeks.
Sources said that Vernekar will conduct an inquiry into the purchase of machinery for ice-cream plant, purchase of five fill-pack machines, import of milk from outside the State, fund allotted by National Dairy Board for development of Goa Dairy, purchase of raw material for Dairy plant etc.
Meanwhile, the no confidence motion moved against Goa Dairy Chairman Madhav Sahakari by eight directors would come for discussion on April 26, said Registrar of Cooperative Socities, Sanjeev Gadkar.
The Goa Dairy has 12 directors, of whom one was disqualified for failing to attend the board meeting on three consecutive occasions. It is learnt that 11 directors would take part in the discussion on the no confidence motion.
The no confidence motion against Sahakari was moved the day after he issued a suspension order against Goa Dairy MD Dr Navso Sawant on April 10. The suspension order against Sawant was issued for his involvement in a scam in purchasing machinery that resulted in loss of Rs 8 crore to the Goa Dairy.
Sahakari claimed that he had incriminating video evidence to prove that Sawant was involved in a scam, based on which, he demanded an investigation against Sawant by the government and Registrar of Cooperative Societies.
Sahakari had also appointed Ajit Kosambe as new MD in place of Sawant, but Kosambe could not take charge as Sawant refused to vacate the cabin reportedly on the instruction of the eight directors who moved the no confidence motion against the chairman.
A second reason was given by Sawant for not vacating his cabin that under the law, the chairman has no power to suspend the MD.
