Cabbies engage in heated quarrels

VASCO: Tension prevailed at Dabolim airport on Wednesday, after the Yellow and Black and tourist taxi operators were engaged in heated arguments with STC taxi operators at the Dabolim airport.

VASCO: Tension prevailed at Dabolim airport on Wednesday, after the Yellow and Black and tourist taxi operators were engaged in heated arguments with STC taxi operators at the Dabolim airport.
According to Dabolim police, the Yellow and Black and tourist taxi operators were involved in a heated argument, after the STC taxi operators tried to start their counter outside the airport.
Police said the owner of the STC tourist taxi services claimed that he had all the necessary permissions to operate his fleet of taxis at Dabolim airport, while the Yellow and Black and tourist taxi operators argued that the STC did not have valid permission from the RTO to operate its fleet .
As the situation was going out of control, police had to seek intervention of Mormugao DySP Laurence D’Souza and Mormugao Additional Mamlatdar Vinod Dalal to tackle the situation.
D’Souza warned them not to take law in their own hands. 
After giving a patient hearing to both the groups, D’Souza directed them to attend a meeting with the Director of Transport in the Mormugao Deputy CollSpeaking to Herald, legal counsel of the Yellow and Black and tourist taxi operators Adv Herculan Dourado said the STC has permission for rental and to hire the taxis to the passengers. “However, the STC does not have valid permission from the RTO to operate its taxis from the airport,” said Dourado.
Refuting the allegations of Adv Dourado, STC taxi service in-charge Fayaz Mohamed said he has all the necessary permissions from the Airport Authority of India and the RTO to operate his fleet of taxis .
Meanwhile, Hanumant Pednekar, driver of STC taxi service, filed a complaint with Dabolim police stating that some unknown persons had assaulted him from behind. Dabolim police have registered an offence against unknown persons.
