Cabinet amends scheme for bio-digester toilets

PANJIM: The State Cabinet on Friday amended the scheme for supply and installation of individual bio-digester household toilets to the people in the State.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that as per the amendment the beneficiaries will now be given three options to construct individual household bio-toilets.

The beneficiaries can now construct household latrines as provided by the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC); latrines with twin leach pits as constructed by M/s Sulabh International Social Service Organisation or construct latrines themselves and then apply for financial assistance up to Rs 40,000 from the GWMC.

However, the last option will be applicable to only those beneficiaries who had already submitted their applications.

The cabinet also approved a proposal for creation of posts to set up DNA finger-printing division at the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Verna.
