PANJIM: The State Cabinet on Friday cleared the path for forming the Goa Mining Development Corporation Ltd as a bill to this effect will be introduced in the legislative Assembly commencing from July 28.
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said the Goa Mineral Development Corporation Bill 2021 would be introduced in the forthcoming session of the Assembly.
The Cabinet decided to implement the new Motor Vehicles Act from April next year with minimum fines imposed on the violators as approved by the Government of India.
Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho said that many States including Goa have urged the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), New Delhi, to reduce the penalty amount.
The Cabinet approved a proposal for procurement of land at Curchorem and Quepem areas for the South Western Railway (SWR).
Appointment of 10 pharmacists, five laboratory technician and pathologists were granted approval by the Cabinet.
The Cabinet also approved the Goa Housing Board Amendment Bill 2021 and a bill for the Bar Council of India (BCI) Trust to establish a new law university in the State, for which the government had issued an Ordinance. The Chief Minister said that the Cabinet also approved a proposal to establish a full-fledged fire and emergency services at Cuncolim.
The Cabinet decided to amend the Act and Rules of the Goa Agricultural Produce and Livestock Marketing (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2007 and Rules 2020 and the Goa Daman and Diu Municipalities Act, to omit words Daman and Diu by introducing the Goa Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2021 in the Legislative Assembly.
The Cabinet gave ex-post facto administrative approval and expenditure sanction for Rs 5.30 crore for various works carried out by the contractors to restore electricity distribution network which was damaged due to Cyclone Taukate in May this year.
