PANJIM: To woo registration of high-end vehicles in the State, the State Cabinet on Wednesday announced reduction in the road taxes for them.
Speaking to reporters after chairing a cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said, “The government has revised the road tax rates of high end vehicles. Earlier there was a high tax rate for the high end vehicles but that has been reduced. Earlier, people used to get their vehicles registered at Puducherry but now with the new rates they will be encouraged to get their vehicles registered in the state itself.”
Now, according to the new reduced slabs, vehicles below Rs 6 lakh will pay six per cent road tax, vehicles below Rs 15 lakh will pay 11 per cent tax, vehicles below Rs 35 lakh will pay 13 per tax and vehicles costing above Rs 35 lakh will pay road tax of 14 per cent.
The cabinet also approved a voluntary retirement scheme for the Group ‘C’ employees of the government.
As per the scheme, Group ‘C’ employees of Goa government can opt for retirement after 15 years of service. Those, who avail this scheme, will get two months salary for every balance year in service, the Chief Minister said.
The cabinet approved the proposal to grant maternity leave, including miscarriage, to the contractual staff of the government.
The cabinet also approved transfer of a quarter of vacant buildings of Urban Health Centre at Khorlim, Mapusa admeasuring 294 square metres to Institute of Astha Anand Niketan for setting up hostel for special children and a new department dedicated to the Persons with Disabilities (PsWs). This department will start functioning from next year.
The cabinet also approved a proposal to bring pay scale of jail staff on par with staff of the Goa Police department.
However, the cabinet deferred a proposal to amend the Goa Mundkarial bill as some changes are required. Another proposal related to the Public Works Department (PWD) was also deferred to the next cabinet meeting.
