PANJIM: The Cabinet via circulation
mode is expected to approve the Rs 1313.74 crore Smart City Proposal (SCP) for
Panjim under the Smart City Development Mission, this week.
The High Powered Committee on Smart
City, chaired by Chief Secretary R K Srivastava, granted its approval to the
SCP, on November 27. The plan has been prepared by ICLEI South Asia. The Corporation
of City of Panaji (CCP) also gave its approval to the proposal, after the
government agreed ‘in-principle’ to fund the entire State-cum-Council
investment share of Rs 500 crore.
Panjim Mayor Shubham Chodankar said
the proposal is before the government and it would be placed before the cabinet
this week. “Following cabinet approval, we have to forward the proposal to the
Union Ministry for Urban Development on December 14,” he said.
With the Centre (Rs 500 crores) and
State (Rs 500 crores), together spending Rs 1000 crore over the next five
years, the consultant has proposed investment through public private
partnership (PPP) and from international agencies or through market loans, to
implement the Rs 1313.74 crore project.
