PANJIM: Defending the ongoing
preparations by BJP party workers and well-wishers to celebrate the 60th
birthday of Union Defence minister Manohar Parrikar on December 13, Chief
Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Tuesday said that neither government funds nor
government machinery is being utilized for the celebrations.
Parsekar, chairing the 135-member
Felicitation Committee, took stock of preparation on Tuesday. Addressing the
media after the review meeting, Parsekar said the felicitation function is a
private function, with no government funds and machinery being utilized. “It is
organized by BJP, party well-wishers and supporters and well-wishers of Manohar
Parrikar. It is basically a spontaneous ‘thanks giving’ response from the
people of Goa,” he said.

The Chief Minister was refuting
Congress charges of use of government funds and machinery for the function, which
will be held at SAG ground.
