PANJIM: The cabinet on Friday approved the amendment to the Tourism Policy permitting the transfer of a beach shack licence from the original leasee to his or her legal heir after the death of principal allottee.
“In case of death of the successful shack allotee the shack may be transferred in the name of the legal heir in the family upon request of the member of family of such deceased shack allotee and after careful consideration of the facts by the Directorate of Tourism,” the resolution passed by the cabinet states.
The government decided to add the provision in Clause No. 2 of the Tourism Policy for erection of temporary seasonal structures for 2013-16.
Addressing media persons after the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said that as per the existing policy, shack licences are provided for a period of three years to an individual.
“However, it has now been reported that some of the shack allotees who were issued these licenses are deceased and their family members have requested for transfer of such shacks in the name of their kin,” he said, adding that so far three such requests have been made.
Parsekar said the government had amended the Tourism Policy in 2013 providing a three-year term for beach shack licences. The policy, however, did not speak about transfer of shack licence to the kin in case of death of allottee.
“The cases of such deceased shack allottees need to be looked at sympathetically as their families depended on the shack business,” he said.
