PANJIM: To avoid duplication, the Council of Ministers on Wednesday decided to amend the Town and Country Planning Act to exclude the requirement of permission and conformity with the Regional Plan for quarrying and mining.
The ministers resolved to amend Clause 10 of Section 2 of the Act in order to omit words mining and quarrying from the definition of development.
The ministers also resolved to amend Section 16, 16-A, 17-A and 44 of the Act so as to exclude the control therein to activities which are regulated under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1987 and Rules made there under.
In short, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said that mining leases will not require permissions from TCP for operations.
