The state rates fourth in all India literacy rate with Kerala leading the chart.
“The scheme can be implemented through various agencies and also through non government agencies. Department will rope in NGOs who are working in this field of education,” he explained adding even retired teachers can also benefit from the scheme by taking up literacy classes.

TRAFFIC PLAN: The State government has approved a proposal to engage the Delhi based institute Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) for drawing up a short and long term traffic plan for the state of Goa.
“The CRRI would be paid Rs 60 lakhs for their services,” he said. Kamat said that the institute has done the initial survey of traffic situation and would submit a short term plan within six months and long term plans within a year.
