Cabral seeks funds from Centre to replace old water pipelines

PANJIM: PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral has appealed to the Centre to provide funds to help the State government replace the age-old water pipelines.

Cabral put this request before the Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat where he requested for additional schemes to be sanctioned, which could be used to replace the age-old obsolete asbestos-cement (AC) pipelines.

He pointed out that in order for Goa to improve its water supply capability, these old pipelines have to be replaced immediately. Shekhawat, Union Minister, informed Cabral that the Centre and his department would provide all the support necessary keeping in mind the goal of implementing the Jal Jeevan Mission and Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) successfully.

It may be recalled that Cabral and Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho had attended the regional conference of States and Union Territories  on the two aforementioned missions, which was held in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Union Minister Shekhawat was the chief guest for the conference that was hosted by the Rajasthan Minister for Ground Water Dr Mahesh Joshi.

Ministers from various States were present while senior government officials from Goa and other States were also present.
