MARGAO: Margao Town Police on late Sunday night around 11 pm booked 28-year-old Aditya Deepak Shetti, owner of Bharat Café, near Bank of India, here, for keeping his cafe open despite the South Goa Collector’s order for total shutdown.
He has been booked under Sections 188 and 269 of the Indian Penal Code for disobedience of order by public servant and for negligent act likely to spread infectious diseases. This Section can result in punishment of six months imprisonment or fine or both.
It may be recalled that in a bid to stop the spread of COVID-19 as it is more commonly known, the Collector had issued an order under Section 144 aimed at social distancing amongst the people so that they cannot infect others with this virus that is highly infectious.
Police Sub Inspector Vibhavari Gaonkar is investigating the matter.
