PANJIM: The Goa Congress has petitioned Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) to conduct an immediate audit and inquiry into the misuse and diversion of central funds for various non-developmental purposes by state government.
In a representation made to CAG, the Congress has said that state government, which is facing a financial crunch on account of fall in revenues resulting from suspension of illegal mining has been misusing and diverting the funds provided for planned development and earmarked for specific projects and schemes.
“This act of misuse and diversion of the funds, received from the Planning Commission, by the government is adversely affecting the development of the state. Much of the central funds are being diverted to float and finance populist schemes such as Laadli Laxmi and Griha Adhar,” the letter sent to CAG on April 22, reads.
The letter also alleges about a scam in International Film Festival of India about a Madurai Visit wherein a group called Sean Advent was sent to participate in a BJP organized exhibition at Madurai and was provided funds to the tune of Rs 25 lakhs from state exchequer.
Meanwhile, Congress spokesman Sudip Tamhankar Friday said that party will approach High Court if anti-corruption branch of the vigilance department fails to act on a complaint filed against Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, as chairman of the Goa Industrial Development Corporation, for the allotment of a plot to his son in the Tuem industrial estate.
