Caitu blames Diggu, Churchill for ‘Carmona scam’

MLA suggests sewerage treatment plant at Raheja site; Questions how TCP could ignore glaring illegalities while approving plan

CARMONA:  Accusing former chief minister Digambar Kamat and former PWD minister Churchill Alemao of being responsible for the ‘Camona scam’, Benaulim MLA Caetano (Caitu) Silva proposed that the area could be used to set up a sewerage treatment plant for Benaulim constituency.
On Wednesday, Silva accompanied over 100 locals for an inspection and questioned how the authorities like TCP could have ignored glaring illegalities like the omission of the cross and the well on the plan and violations in the access road to the property while approving the plan.
He asserted that given that the width of the road is 3.5 meters as per the inspection and thus not within the mandatory requirement of six meters, there are enough grounds, including the cross and the well, for TCP to withdraw the technical clearance.
Asked who was responsible for the scam, he pointed out to the decisions taken by the erstwhile Congress government, such as amending the rules in 2011 and accused Kamat and Alemao of allowing the Rahejas to come through despite public objections as early as in 2007.
He also said they are looking for a place to set up a sewerage treatment plant in view of the laying of sewerage line for Varca, Carmona and Cavelossim and that the government can give 10,000 square meters of land for the same as an alternative.
The MLA had met the district collector on Tuesday along with locals and asked the Collector to issue a show cause notice to Rahejas and to put on hold or revoke the construction license.
