Caitu hands over statue to Church

MARGAO: Benaulim MLA Caitu Silva has handed over the statue of Our Lady of Lourdes to the Parish Priest of Holy Trinity Church, Benaulim Fr Rocklyn D’Costa who later blessed it after a short prayer. It may be recalled that the statue was recovered from the river Sal along with an idol of Lord Krishna last month when the area was taken up for cleaning. “The statue has been cleaned and painted by me as per the promise given to the people. I would have loved to retain the statue, but I am handing it to the Church,” Caitu said.

Namaz timing at Margao
MARGAO: The Sunni-Jaamat-Ul-Muslameen, Jamia Masjid, Malbhat-Margao, has announced Namaz timings for Eid Ul Zuha on October 6. The prayers at the Eidgaah (qabrastan), Pajifond-Margao will be held at 8 am, followed by prayers at the Jamia Masjid, Malbhat at 8.45 am, stated a press note issue by President Kassim Karim Khan.
Namaz at Taleigao Community hall
PANJIM: Jamat-e-Mohamedia, Taleigao will be organizing Eid Namaaz in Taleigao community hall due to insufficient space to accommodate all the namaaze. Namaz will be held at 8.45 am on 6 October 2014.
Little Angels home opening in Chorao
PANJIM: Union Minister of Tourism, Shripad Naik, will inaugurate Little Angels,  custodial home  for children with special needs at H No 910, Condolem, near St Bartholomeu Church, Chorao, on October 5, at Noon. Dr Aditya Arya is the chairman of the home.
Mandrem local held for bullfight
PERNEM: A man from Mandrem has been arrested in connection with a bullfight in Pernem. According to Pernem police, three persons were accused of organising a bullfight, thereby subjecting the animals to cruelty and provided entertainment to public between 7.45 am and 8.15 am on October 3. Pramod Naik of Mandrem has been arrested in this connection. 
GTDC welcomes first charter
PANJIM: GTDC and Department of Tourism welcomed the first charter flight Fly Dubai from Ukraine-Kiev, which arrived on October 3, at Dabolim airport, carrying 38 tourists. They were welcomed by Bharat Chodankar, Asst Manager, Jacinto D’Souza, Information Assistant along with Anil Thakur, Senior Manager AAI Goa. A Goan brass band was also in attendance. All the 38 tourists were greeted with roses as they walked into the airport. 
Ladies shoppee opens in city
PANJIM: Saji Savri, a ladies shoppee was inaugurated by CV Naik, a businessman and social worker. The shoppee contains sarees, dress material, kurtis, leggings, dupattas and more. Saji Savri is located just 1.5 kilometers from the Mandovi bridge at Hotel Shaurya at Patto, Ribandar.
Harvesters launched in Verna
PANJIM: On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, after attending the special gram sabha and the cleanliness drive, the Sarpanch of Verna, Lourenca Gama launched the paddy harvesters to commence the harvesting of paddy in Verna, in the presence of a large number of farmers. The sarpanch and the farmers thanked local MLA Mickky Pacheco for his efforts in making the machine available.  
Exhibition of crochet items at Patto
PANJIM: An exhibition cum sale of crochet items prepared by the members of Industrial Handicraft and Handloom Cooperative Society shall be held from October 7 to 10, at 9-B, Government Quarters, Patto, Panjim. The exhibition will be open from 10 am to 6.30 pm on all four days.
