MAPUSA: The Calangute gram sabha on Sunday adopted a resolution for taking action against beggars and illegal businesses being carried out by migrants.
As the meeting began, the villagers congratulated and appreciated the panchas for taking initiative to solve cattle menace in the village.
A villager suggested that the panchayat should keep the impounded cows for at least two days in the village before sending them at Mayem so that the owners concerned can identify their cows and reclaim the animals. He said that once the cows are shifted to Mayem, it becomes difficult for the owners to identify their cows.
Responding to this, the Sarpanch informed that panchayat does not have any place to keep the cows, as such the impounded cows are directly sent to Mayem.
To a question by a villager as to how many cows have been impounded till then and what was the cost for the panchayat for impounding and sifting the cows at Mayem, Sarpanch Rodrigues informed that till now panchayat has impounded and shifted 150 cows and the cost is Rs 750 per cow.
Satisfied with the answer, the villager suggested that the panchayat could avoid the cost of impounding and shifting the cows to Mayem if they make use of previously acquired comunidade land.
Responding to suggestion, Sarpanch informed that the previously acquired comunidade land is now being used to dump garbage and that is why the panchayat does not have any land to make shade for the impounded cattle to keep the impounded cattle.
A villager Premanand Divkar raised the issue of increasing migrants in the village and the increasing illegal businesses that migrants carry out on streets of Calangute.
