Calangute Block Congress members, prominent leaders quit party after Lobo’s entry

CALANGUTE: Following the induction of BJP minister Michael Lobo in Congress, the upset Calangute Block Congress including former MLA Agnel Fernandes, Former Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira, Ex-ZP member Anthony Menezes and Block President Benedict D’Souza quit the Congress party. The Block tendered their resignation on Wednesday.

The decision was taken during an emergency block level meeting held at Calangute on Wednesday afternoon. “The Calangute Block of Congress has resigned since we are not at all happy with the induction of Michael Lobo into the party,” said Fernandes.

“There are four aspirant candidates of Congress in Calangute and till date, we have stayed together loyal to the party. Mr. P. Chidambaram had assured that the block would decide and select its candidate. But this dirty politics is not my cup of tea. We have stayed loyal, but Congress wants royalty and not loyalty. I felt that I made a big mistake by staying with congress. We stayed united and were firm that whoever gets the ticket from the four aspirants, we will work for each other. Party thought they will get an outside person and we will work for him to win? This time it will be the people’s MLA,” said Menezes.

Sequiera said, “In these 10 years, a lot of injustice was done to us but we still stayed with the party. The Congress will be sold for 30 new paise by this waste management minister and the Congress party in Goa will be finished.”
