Mapusa: Calangute, Candolim and Arpora Nagoa were declared as micro containment zones (MCZs) for 10 days begining from Thursday.
The decision was taken during a joint meeting of Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, Dy Collector Bardez Kapil Phadte, Calangute PI Nolasco Raposo, Health officer of Candolim PHC Nazareth, Sarpanch of Calangute, Candolim and Nagao Arpora sarpanch.
After the meeting, Calangute Sarpanch Shawn Martin said, “there will be a ten days containment zone in Calangute, Candolim and Nagoa Arpora which Will begin from Thursday”. “The ten days containment zone is declared to break the Chain of the virus that is spreading rapidly and killing the people. This request has come from the people. During this period people working in Government sector and private firms will have exception to move provided they show an identity card,” he said.
Martin said, “no new hotel bookings will be allowed during this period and all the bookings done during these ten days will be cancelled. Hotels which presently have tourists booking will have to take care of the guests. Essential services will remain open from 6am to 12 pm. From 1pm onwards, there will be curfew,” he added.
“All construction work will be stopped however those who are doing minor repairs will be allowed depending on the situation of the house”, he said.
He said wedding celebrations will be cancelled and people can have their religious ceremonies with maximum 10 to 20 people as per SOP, however wedding celebrations are banned.
He said since there is shortage of ambulance, with help of MLA, they have tied up with private agencies as well as the panchayat under the Panchayat Fund to have ambulances service.
Martin said the Health officer of Candolim Health Center has asked volunteers to help to call and find out how home isolations are functioning.
