MAPUSA: The Calangute MLA and Chairman of NGPDA has initiated the development work of Calangute-Candolim coastal belt to provide basic infrastructure facility such as toilets, changing room, shower room etc, even as GTDC sectioned Rs 6 crore.
We require infrastructure development to make the Calangute-Candolim belt a world-class tourist destination. The basic infrastructure is the need of hour and we have been planning this development for the last four years, he said.
These basic facilities have been taken up from the funds allocated by the Central government for development of tourism industry in Goa. Seven toilets for male and female will be provided around Calangute, Candolim, Baga at Tito’s lane and Mambos, which will also have around 15 urinals, changing rooms and shower rooms. GTDC has sanctioned Rs 6 crore for construction of toilets on Calangute beach belt.
The water used for flushing will be retreated and reused, while excess water will be used for gardening.
Arrangements have been made for providing parking for 150 to 200 cars, 400 two-wheelers and 40 buses. A proposal of Rs 350 crore has been forwarded to Central ministry for world-class mini-stadium and multipurpose parking project in Candolim. which will include double basement parking.Lobo also said the MDR road has been reduced to 15 metres from 25 meter, so that people’s houses don’t get affected.
NGPDA has also decided to clear all encroachments from Baga to Sinquerim road, including shops, compound walls, sheds etc.
The order in this regard was passed by NGPDA and North Goa Collector. The deputy collector Bardez, police and locals panchayats has been also informed. NGPDA, with the help of local panchayats, has already started clearing of encroachment.
To put to use the land acquired by Goa government in 1976, Lobo has started project for children and elderly people in Calangute. Calangute will also have an information centre soon.
Besides, CCTV will also be installed everywhere in the constituency and the Centre would keep record of the same, where data of six months would be stored. The work of underground cabling has also begun in Calangute.
