Calangute casino licence cancelled

PANJIM: The State government has cancelled the licence of a casino which was in operation in a five-star hotel at Calangute after one of its directors was found allegedly involved in crimes and also for non-payment of dues amounting to crores of rupees.

According to Home Dept, one of the directors is facing seven criminal cases of which five cases have been chargesheeted and pending trial and one case is under investigation. Secondly the management/licencee owes dues of Rs 47.05 crore to the govt and they have asked to pay the dues with penal interest within 45 days of receipt of the order failing which the amount will be recovered as arrears of Land Revenue.

During inquiry, it was found that the licencee had sublet the casino operations to a third party.
