CALANGUTE: The Calangute Police have collected around Rs 16,52,750 in as many as 15,254 cases registered under the Motor Vehicle Act last year. There has also been an increase in the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) cases registered with 3568 booked last year. There has been a hundred percent rise in the various other cases registered in 2018 compared to the previous years.
Calangute PI Jivba Dalvi told Herald that there were few fatal accidents witnessed within the jurisdiction due to the booking of M V cases.
“We have seen that people wear helmets and make use of seatbelts while riding and driving. In 2017 we barely booked 4570 MV cases and the year previous to that was only 2626. Even though there were accidents this year they were not severe and most of them escaped with minor scratches and bruises. We are also acting against those who are smoking in public places. We also challaned maximum number of restaurants and establishments for not displaying appropriate No Smoking sign boards at their outlets,” Dalvi said.
