CALANGUTE: Calangute police arrested the driver of a rent-a-car vehicle which was being driven in a reckless manner Sunday night. There were seven persons in the four wheel drive vehicle, who were all engineering students and enjoying the joyride.
The driver was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class Mapusa and was fined Rs 20,000.
Some female students were seen standing in a four wheel drive at Calangute indulging in risky behaviour on the vehicle. The red rent-a-car was seen zipping through Calangute with two women tourists standing on the side steps of the vehicle on both sides, putting their lives at serious risk.
This is taking liberty to extreme levels, bordering on dangerous stunts and breaking road safety rules. Such actions not only pose a threat to the individuals involved but also jeopardize the reputation of Goa as a safe and welcoming tourist destination.
The car rentals and the traffic police should reach out to those hiring vehicles in Goa and caution them against such type of irresponsible behaviour and violation of Motor Vehicle rule.
