CALANGUTE: The Calangute Constituency Forum (CCF) along with the residents of Calangute constituency will gather at the Electricity Department on Thursday to demand a solution to the issue of constant load-shedding and voltage fluctuations.
The people are fed up with the frequent power cuts, which is affecting the daily life and the voltage fluctuations is damaging electrical equipments. One can recall that on April 30 and May 7, Calangute was plunged into darkness for over three hours. Locals allege that the constant load shedding and power shortage is caused due to the extra connections or rather illegal connections being given indiscriminately.
The President of CCF Premanand Divkar said that the locals are angry and frustrated with the power issues in Calangute.
“We will be marching to the Electricity Department and demanding an immediate solution to the problem. The locals will be assembling at the department office at 10.30 am. We may even meet the power minister to intervene in the matter,” he said.
Another local pointed out that ever since the summer begun they have been facing this problem of load-shedding. “We have been facing frequent load-shedding taking place practically every day lasting for around 15 minutes. Around four to five times a day we are left to suffer due to these power outrages,” he said.
One can recall that last week the Sarpanch of Calangute Shawn Martins himself lamented over the fact that nearly half the village is affected due to inadequate electricity supply and their priority is to get new power cables from Porvorim to Saligao sub-station and Colvale to Nagoa sub-station. The panchayat is serious about finding a solution to this issue and is giving an aggressive push from their end.
He said that more than half of Calangute is affected and the people are facing a major crisis due to power cuts and fluctuations.
