CANACONA: The parishioners of Our Lady of Rosary Church, Sadolxem-Canacona are agitated over the Electricity Department’s planned shutdown on Saturday (May 11) which coincides with the annual feast.
Over 500 parishioners met local MLA Isidore Fernandes and through a letter requested him to use his office to postpone the South Goa power shutdown to some other date.
Xavier Barretto, a parishioner blamed the Electricity Department for not conducting any study to find out if there was any important festival on that day.
He said most churches in Goa celebrate their feasts in May either on a Saturday or Sunday and the government should desist from having a planned shutdown on such days.
“We understand that pre-monsoon maintenance work is important and is required for uninterrupted power supply during monsoons but do it in April or other weekdays,” Barretto said.
