CALANGUTE: The Calangute Constituency Forum (CCF) on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to the office of the Tourism Minister seeking a drive against pimps, touts, beggars, illegal hawkers and masseuse in the coastal areas of Calangute and Candolim.
Copies of the memorandum have also been submitted to the office of the Chief Secretary, North Goa Collector, Superintendent of Police, and the Panchayats of Candolim and Calangute.
The memorandum highlights the nuisance created by pimps, touts, beggars, illegal hawkers and masseuse to the locals and tourists. Instances of local girls being harassed, confronted by touts soliciting favours have been reported. “This negative tourism is detrimental in the long run and is against the traditional Goan culture. In addition, it is bringing a bad name and reputation to our village. The young boys and girls from these villages are being exposed to this unethical and illegal business which might prove to be detrimental to their overall upbringing and mental health,” the memorandum states.
The Calangute Constituency Forum has extended its full support in providing information on illegal activities to the authorities concerned and assured to be proactive in helping the authorities to eradicate this nuisance.
The Forum has demanded that strict action be initiated to eradicate these activities.
Forum President Premanand Divkar told Herald that illegal activities of touts, sex trade, massage parlors and beggars have increased in the Candolim-Calangute coastal belt.
