CALANGUTE: Calangute BJP led by Calangute MLA Michael Lobo on Monday launched a drive against migrant labourers staying in rented premises in Calangute without proper documentation.
The drive was indirectly linked to a kidnapping case of a minor girl, who was rescued by locals and Calangute police at Tivim Railway station.
Addressing media persons, Lobo said, “I do not blame the Calangute police for the kidnapping, as the accused was staying in a rented room in the victim’s house and the owner had not submitted any police verification form.”
“In the absence of any documentation, the Calangute police were helpless in the matter, while the house owner could not even provide proper name of the accused. If the owner had provided the data in the required form to Calangute police, it would have been much easier to nab the culprit. However, the girl was rescued and the accused nabbed by the locals and Calangute police,” informed Lobo.
“Everyone is free to give their rooms on rent, but the owners should provide the data of their tenants or migrants in the prescribed form. The data provided to police comes handy in such difficult situations,” he said.
“The migrants have been asked to move to another place outside the busy market area at ‘Bodkeavhodd’ as they have been causing inconvenience to locals, especially girls and ladies either going to colleges or work and submit the required data. They have been advised to get the police card done to work honestly and sincerely in Calangute village,” added Lobo.
Calangute PI Rajesh Kumar, PSI Nitin Halarnkar and others were present during the drive in the Calangute market.
