PANJIM: Since Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has admitted on the floor of the House the existence of rampant corruption in all departments, the Congress has appealed to Goa Governor Om Prakash Kohli to bring in new clean leadership for the State or alternately impose President’s rule, considering the complete breakdown of administration leading to a constitutional crisis.
The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) executive committee under the chairmanship of party president John Fernandes met on Monday and resolved to condemn the admission made by the chief minister that there exists rampant corruption in all departments including those of which he holds charge.
“Chief Minister had assured the people of Goa ‘zero tolerance to corruption’ soon after coming to power. Two-and-a-half years down the line, he himself admits that there is rampant corruption,” Fernandes told media persons soon after the meeting.
Fernandes said that the revelation exposes the breakdown in the administration thus creating a constitutional crisis which may lead to financial emergency and therefore, we appeal to the Governor, who is a custodian of the Constitution that a new and clean leadership should be given to the State to head the government or alternatively to impose president’s rule. “We want the Governor to issue directions to the government to change their leader, who himself has failed to curtail the corruption in his departments,” he said.
The meeting also resolved to appeal to the government to install the statue of India’s first prime minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in the premise of the State Assembly complex to commemorate his 125th birth anniversary.
