CALANGUTE: A hotel at Khobrawaddo, Calangute, was fined Rs 25,000 for releasing sewage on the road by the Calangute panchayat, on Saturday.
Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira said they had issued a notice to the hotel four months ago when it was found that they were releasing sewage on the road advising them to take measures to empty the sewage soak pit through tankers. But despite the notice, the hotel was again found releasing sewage overflow on the road, following which the hotel was fined Rs 25,000. The hotel has been warned if measures are not taken then the panchayat would direct the electricity dept to disconnect electricity supply to the hotel and stop its operations.
