The clash took place after the touts outside the dance bar allegedly told locals, who were shooting a video of the solicitation of customers, to move away

Calangute: Calangute residents protested outside the Calangute Police Station late Sunday night demanding the shutting down of an alleged illegal dance bar at Gauravaddo along the Calangute-Candolim road following a clash between locals and the bar staff.

The incident took place after touts outside the dance bar allegedly told some residents, who were shooting a video of the solicitation of customers near the dance bar entrance, to move away.

The locals said they have a right to stand and move on the road, which led to arguments between locals and the bar staff, with both sides complaining to the police  “People have been complaining about these dance bars in Calangute but still they continue to operate without any licences. They stand outside the bars and ask people passing by ‘You can get anything you want inside’. How can such things be allowed,” locals said.

Following a complaint, Calangute Police visited the spot but the alleged dance bar was shut.
