MARGAO: With the issue pertaining to Kabrastan at Sonsoddo yet to be resolved, the Lingayat community has called for a separate burial ground as they have claimed of facing problems when burying their departed ones.
At a meeting held at Margao, the Lingayat community groups deliberated on the issue. It is pertinent to note that the Muslim community is facing a tough time due to lack of land to bury their departed ones, wherein the land acquired at Sonsoddo by Margao Municipal Council for burial ground is not yet solved.
Veershatv Lingayat, a member of the Lingayat Samaj Dayanand Pattanshetty told reporters that his community wished that they should have separate burial ground to bury their departed ones.
“Presently, we are facing a tough time when we go to bury our departed ones in the present area. A separate land could have been a better idea to avoid hardship,” he said.
The issue pertaining to the land acquired near Sonsoddo dump yard for burial ground is still unresolved. The Church Committees of Raia and Borda have raised objections to the demarcation of land, claiming that they have been kept in the dark, as the acquired land falls in their areas.
However, Borda and Raia residents said the burial ground should be a common burial ground. and sought clarity from the civic body on the acquired land.
