Calangute MLA assures to shift both sewerage pumping stations

CALANGUTE: Calangute MLA Michael Lobo on Monday assured that both the sewerage pumping stations proposed at Gaurawado and Gaurawado West will be shifted.

The minister’s assurance comes following objections from the locals in setting up of the above stations.

“I agree with the sentiments of the villagers and Shree Shantadurga Devasthan Committee that the devasthan land should not be used for pumping station. Similarly, people have also raised objection to pumping station at Gaurawado West and that too will be shifted. We will identify alternate land in the same lane and shift the projects”, Lobo said.

“The devasthan has provided alternate land but this land cannot be used since it is located in internal area and heavy vehicles cannot move around there. We want that project on main road,” Lobo informed.

“The panchayat has passed the resolution and the Devasthan’s previous committee had issued NOC for the project on its letter head and based on this the project was processed”, Lobo added.

Lobo said, “Some people want to politicise the issue and trying to create panic amongst the locals. If they were bothered then where they were for last five years when the land was acquired. They won’t get anything by doing so”.

It may be recalled that the Calangute villagers, residents of Gaurawado and Devasthan Committee of Shree Shantadurga Devasthan had strongly objected to the setting up of sewerage pumping station on the land owned by the devasthan.

The protestors had claimed that if such projects come up in residential area then it will cause health hazard and had asked government to shift the project to a non-residential area.

When the contractor and PWD had commenced the project work, the villagers and devasthan committee members stopped the same.
