MAPUSA: Calangute police busted a sex racket on Wednesday night by arresting two pimps and rescuing two victim girls.
A team of Calangute police led by Police Inspector Jivba Dalvi in presence of NGO member rescued two victim girls and arrested two pimps, namely, Subrata Nayak, a native of Orissa and Abdul Mayam, a native of Assam during a raid conducted in Calangute on Wednesday night.
One of the rescued girls hails from Punjab and the other from Maharashtra.
Police sources said that PI Jivba Dalvi had received a call informing that two person will be coming on two wheelers at Calangute to handover girls to perspective customers for sex.
Acting on same, the police team waited at the site and caught the accused persons red handed while handing over the victim girls to the customers.
During the raid, it was learnt that the accused persons used to provide girls for sex on two wheelers in order to make it difficult to identify and trace the victims and the pimps from general public.
The rescued girls have been sent to the Protective Home at Merces. Calangute Police have attached two scooters, three mobile phone sets and cash from accused persons.
Calangute police have registered the crime under Section 370 IPC and Sections 4, 5 and 7 of Immoral Traffic (prevention) Act, 1956.
The raiding team comprised of PI Jivba Dalvi, PSIs Videsh Pilgaonkar, Sitaram Malik, Rishikesh Patil and staff Subhash Malvankar, Vidhyanand Amonkar, Swapnil Simepurushkar, lady police constable Mithila Bayekar and Geeta Ghadi from Care for India, an NGO.
