CALANGUTE: Calangute Village Panchayat Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira on Thursday intercepted a vehicle and caught the driver red-handed while dumping construction debris and garbage in the roadside fields, at Porbhavaddo Calangute.
The vehicle was seized and fine of Rs 25,000 was imposed on the culprit.
While stating that even after filing complaints, if the authorities concerned don’t act, Calangute will be soon filled with waste material, Sequeira said, “We caught the driver of a vehicle while dumping debris along with garbage in the roadside fields. According to the driver, the debris belong to a construction site at Nagoa. We have made several complaints to the authorities concerned but there is no action. We don’t know what the PDA, Town and Country Planning Department and Deputy Collector are doing. If this continue then whole Calangute will be filled with construction debris and garbage soon. We have imposed fine on the concerned person under Biodegradable Act and we will make sure that this garbage and construction debris are cleared.”
