CALANGUTE: The residents of Naikawaddo in Calangute on Monday, held a protest at the Calangute Panchayat Ghar, demanding the revocation of a spa license issued in their locality. They alleged that the spa was involved in illegal activities and raised concerns about irregularities in the licence issuance process. The license was dated July 10 and signed by the former panchayat secretary, Arjun Velip, who had been transferred on June 21.
The residents stated that they became aware of the spa’s existence when it suddenly opened over the weekend. They expressed their discontent, stating that their neighborhood is primarily residential, and they do not want such a spa operating there. According to the residents, they noticed suspicious activities when a signboard was displayed outside the spa on Saturday.
In response, the residents gathered on Sunday morning and entered the spa premises, removing some furniture and instructing the owner to cease operations. They expressed their concerns about the prevalence of prostitution rackets and voiced their desire to prevent their locality from being affected by such activities.
After the protest at the Calangute Panchayat Ghar on Monday morning, the residents met with Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira, who assured them that the spa license would be revoked. When questioned about the issuance of the license by the former panchayat secretary, who had already been transferred, Sarpanch Sequeira explained that they keep a few licenses signed in advance for convenience.
