CALANGUTE: Barely two days after the polls, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo lost no time in inaugurating road hot-mixing works at Naikka Vaddo in Calangute on Monday.
However, the Calangute Sarpanch Geeta Porob has dismissed the act as a “publicity stunt,” claiming that the tenders had been floated through the initiatives of the Calangute panchayat.
Calangute BJP Yuva Morcha President Yeshwant Kandolkar, Parra Dy Sarpanch Kamla Lingudkar, Arpora-Nagoa Dy Sarpanch Cleophas Fernandes, panchas of Parra, Arpora-Nagoa, Candolim, Anthony Menezes and Jhonny Silveira of Calangute, as well as PWD officials were present on the occasion.
Incidentally, neither Calangute Sarpanch Geeta Porob, nor her deputy or panch members attend the inaugural function at Calangute.
Addressing media persons at the venue, Lobo said, “We have inaugurated today the works on hot-mixing of internal roads which begins at Naikka Vaddo, Calangute and we will cover other parts of Calangute and surrounding areas in due course of time.”
“We were privileged to get the works done through the PWD as the roads were in very bad shape and needed urgent repairs. The hot-mixing of roads will help the public and tourists to have good motorable roads, which were neglected for years together,” said Lobo.
When asked to comment on the inauguration of road works in Calangute in her absence, Porob said, “Breaking a coconut to inaugurate any work has become the publicity stunt of our dynamic MLA of Calangute.”
“The road works were initiated by Calangute Panchayat with the contribution of each ward member, but Calangute MLA wants the credit for the works initiated by the panchayat. It is, however, good that development is taking place in Calangute,” Porob said. “All tenders were floated following initiatives by the Calangute panchas, else the Calangute MLA would not have been able to carry out any developmental activity in the Village Panchayat of Calangute jurisdiction.”
