PANJIM: Irked by the nuisance caused by tourist buses in the village, residents of Calangute have demanded the immediate shifting of the parking lot from Calangute Association ground.
In a complaint filed at Calangute police station against the tourist buses and vehicles parked at Calangute Association grounds, residents of Umta Waddo said this is causing hardship to the locals.
“These buses cause a lot of traffic jams from Calangute tinto to the football ground. Once the buses and vehicles are parked they take bath on the beach and return semi-nude,” said a complaint signed by around 25 residents.
The complaint further states, “These tourists also undertake cooking activities on the football ground and also urinate in the open. Kindly arrange to relocate the parking lot to any convenient location.”
The locals have also complained against others for causing nuisance on the association grounds. “It is noticed that there are lot of lamanis doing business by the roadside and also cook, bath and urinate at the same places. Kindly arrange to put an end to the nuisance which has been causing an eyesore for the tourists as well as the locals,” the complaint states.
When contacted for his comments Calangute MLA Michael Lobo said he has written to the Director of Tourism to look into the matter at the earliest. “The department is earning a lot of revenue from the parking fees and it is the duty of department to monitor and maintain these places,” he said.
