CALANGUTE: The Calangute Village Panchayat along with the local police raided the premises such as stalls and shops indulging in the sale of tobacco products.
The panchayat had earlier warned the shops and stall owners over the sale of tobacco products and there was also a public notice issued in regards to the same on May 17. Several pan and gutka stalls situated around the main market area and Calangute Beach were raided. The tobacco content seized will be buried and the wrapper waste will be sent to the Saligao garbage plant.
Speaking on the initiative, Calangute Sarpanch Shawn Martins said that the panchayat confiscated tobacco products from commercial establishments selling these dangerous products.
