Calangute VP issues demolition order to resort

CALANGUTE: The Calangute panchayat issued a demolition order to a resort at Tivaiwaddo, Calangute, following a High Court order in a petition filed by Goa Foundation.

The Goa Foundation had filed the petition claiming that the owner of the property with survey no 158/1 at Tivaiwaddo, Lloyd St Jude Joaquim Fernandes, had constructed eight cottages, a swimming pool and other structures, without obtaining a construction licence. The High Court had passed an order in July directing the Calangute panchayat to verify the facts and issue a demolition order for the illegal structures.

The panchayat demolition order issued on October 16 states that the GCZMA had given permission for temporary structures for the season in December 2019 and no construction licence had been obtained by the owner of the property. The owner constructed 8 cottages, swimming pool, soak pit, compound wall and other permanent structures.

The panchayat order directed the owner to demolish all the illegal structures within 15 days.
