CALANGUTE: The members of the Calangute Constituency Forum have submitted a memorandum to the Directorate of Panchayats and Bardez Block Development Officer requesting them to direct Calangute sarpanch to convene the gram sabha.
In a letter addressed to DoP and BDO, the Forum stated that the government has unlocked the State administrative services as well as public movement for social gathering within norms of Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on COVID-19.
The Forum said that some panchayats in the State have already conducted gram sabhas keeping in mind the interest of villages in all aspects towards sustainable development. It requested the DoP and BDO to direct Calangute sarpanch to convene the gram sabha for the months of April and July under Section 5(I) of Panchayat Raj Act 1994 and to take up the annual statement of accounts 2019-2020, annual administrative report, audit report of the panchayat and development works and other programmes proposed for discussion.
The letter also stated that last gram sabha was called in January 2020 and gram sabha members should not be deprived of their right to seek information or plans in the interest of the village.
