Calangute VP removes 12 illegal stalls

CALANGUTE: The Village Panchayat of Calangute removed around 12 illegal stalls along the Calangute- Baga road, Tito’s lane and at Sauntavaddo as part of their drive to keep the coastal belt free from obstructions and illegalities.
With the help of a crane the stalls removed to clear areas for parking, free movement for pedestrians and to ensure smooth flow of traffic.
Speaker Michael Lobo has taken the initiative to get the footpaths cleared and areas along the main road of vehicles, boards, handcarts, gaddas and encroachments. The panchayat had earlier cleared 100 odd illegal signboards and more than 70 abandoned vehicles lying around in the village.
Calangute Sarpanch, Shawn Martins informed that they are implementing the orders laid down by the Collector to clear everything that is obstructing the footpaths and vehicular traffic flow in the area. “As part of this drive we are clearing abandoned vehicles, signboards, stalls and handcarts that are causing inconvenience to the tourist as well as locals. When we began discarding the illegal stalls many handcarts and other vendors operated illegally started dispersing. The drive will resume again in the New Year,” Martins said.   Also an active part of this clearance drive that started in November is the ZP Member, Dattaprasad Dabolkar and other panchas.
